As a real estate agent here in the East Valley, I have met many empty nesters who are looking to downsize and buy a smaller home. Downsizing is an experience that every parent goes through; your last child living at home has just left for college and you are left with a home that is just too big. While it might be tempting to stay put, you also like the idea of scaling back so you have less house to clean and maintain.

1. Downsizing

One of the biggest reasons people move to a new place is because of a great deal of unused space. From upkeep to extra rooms, downsizing to a smaller home is often the way to go. For many, this also means getting rid of furniture, clothing and equipment you no longer need. Having a garage sale or donating your unwanted items is an easy way to help clear our extra clutter.

2. Envisioning Your Living Space

The next step is to figure out what type of living space you need. This might be an apartment-style home with little maintenance and many amenities. A condo or townhome might also be more suitable for you.  These types of homes usually have an association that helps with maintaining your property.

3. Lifestyle Options

If there are activities you love to do, the lifestyle options that you are looking for might really impact what kind of home you choose. There are many things to do in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. In San Tan Mountain Regional Park there are many hiking trails and in Queen Creek’s Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre there is horseback riding. You might also think about moving into a 55+ community that offer activities and amenities that suit your lifestyle choices. These communities are also great for meeting other empty nesters and making new friends.

One brand-new community that is worth noting is Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch. Located just south of San Tan Valley in Florence, Arizona, this beautiful Del Webb community offers exceptional floor plans, top-of-the-line features and impressive amenities.
