Surviving in real estate!!

As my first year in Real Estate comes to a close I have learned so much. I have learned so much about people and what makes them tick. I have learned that being on your own has just as many draw backs as it does rewards. I have learned that most people don’t know, what they don’t know. I had no idea what the real scope of the job was until I started. As a Realtor you are a friend, enemy, errand runner, delivery driver, taxi, cleaner, counselor, painter, handyman, landscaper, pool cleaner, dog catcher, baby sitter, artist, writer, social networker, marketing guru, financial advisor, and about a thousand other things.  I have learned that you find out what you are really made of when you have no paycheck coming in and no idea when you will get the next one. What a roller coaster ride it has been. I can’t believe that it was only a year ago that I was still Working at CarMax and not sure If I was making the right move or not.

So here is my advice if you are thinking about going into Real Estate. Here is a simple fact for you. The population of the Greater Phoenix area is roughly 4.3 million people. There are 70,000 active agents in the Greater Phoenix area. So what does that mean? If you know 60 people at least one of them is a Realtor. Starting out your number one goal has to be client aqquisition. You may know lots of people, but chances are they already know or have a Realtor. You are gonna find out who your real friends are! Be prepared to have your feelings hurt. Some people that you consider your closest friends will ask your advice and use someone else. Its just part of the job. You can’t really blame them. They know that you just started and have no idea what you are doing. You are gonna feel super discouraged your first few months. It will be hard to keep doing the things that you need to because you  will not see any results. I reccomend that you find someone else in your office that you get along with and set goals together and hold each other accountable.
